Jason McDonald's Travel and Walking Pages
This site contains photos and descriptions of the long-distance walks I have done in the United Kingdom and some of the other places I have visited. Follow the links above to explore the site.
Most of the pictures shown on the site were taken with a Pentax K5 Digital SLR. This has proven to be a very reliable camera and has survived some fairly extreme weather completely unscathed.
Up to August 2011, I used a Pentax DA 18-55mm lens for most shots, while a few of the long-range shots were taken using a Pentax DA 50-200mm lens. More recently, I have been using a Pentax DA 18-135mm lens. This is a good general purpose lens and has allowed me to avoid carrying a second lens most of the time.
I have scaled the pictures down to 1024x680 to keep the bandwidth usage of this site within acceptable limits. Many of the original 16-megapixel images look fantastic on the large screen that I have at home, so I can assure you that any faults in the images on this site are entirely due to the photographer, rather than the equipment.

During a short visit to Kent, I managed to complete the two-day Medway Valley Walk, which follows the course of the river between the two Norman strongholds of Tonbridge and Rochester.

The last of the Isle of Wight's eight official day walks was the 12km Hamstead Trail, which I combined with two sections of the Coastal Path for a very enjoyable 27km outing.

The Freshwater Way is a half-day circular walk near the western end of Isle of Wight.

My first walk for the summer of 2016 was the Nunwell Trail, an easy coast-to-coast walk across the eastern quarter of the Isle of Wight.

My final walk for 2015 (yes, I'm a bit behind with my writing) was the 23km second stage of the Somerset Coast Path, from Minehead to the unusual geology of Kilve Beach.

Here's a page for the 33.5 kilometre final stage of the South West Coast Path, along the Exmoor coast from Lynmouth to the seaside resort town of Minehead. That's five National Trails down, fourteen to go.

I'm back after a hiatus, with a bit of catching up to do. Let's start with a page for the 53rd stage of the South West Coast Path, along the spectacular edge of Exmoor from Combe Martin to Lynmouth.
